Date: 10/29/25

TACOMA, Wash. (October 29, 2025) – Coordinated Care, a Washington managed care organization and wholly owned subsidiary of Centene Corporation (NYSE: CNC), is deepening its commitment to the health and well-being of mothers and babies statewide with investments and partnerships that ensure access to high-quality care throughout the maternal health journey and beyond.

With more than 20 percent of Washington’s counties classified as maternity care deserts and maternal mortality rates continuing to rise nationwide, Coordinated Care is focused on closing critical gaps in care so that its members and their families have the resources and support they need for a healthy start.

"Every pregnancy is unique, and we want each member to feel supported every step of the way, from the first prenatal visit to the baby's first steps," said Coordinated Care Chief Medical Officer and Chief Health Equity Officer Usha Sankrithi, MD. "Through innovative programs and wraparound services, we’re working with our community partners across the state to break down barriers to equitable, compassionate maternal care and give parents the skills they need to thrive. That's how we cultivate healthy beginnings for all."

"Coordinated Care has made such a positive impact on our programs, the Spokane community, and our entire state," said Shaun Cross, President and CEO of Maddie's Place. "They are a committed partner improving maternal healthcare across Washington and helping us provide hope and support to mothers, families, and children."

To meet the diverse needs of Apple Health (Medicaid) enrollees across the state, Coordinated Care also offers a range of innovative programs designed to promote healthy pregnancies, safe deliveries, and strong starts for babies. Backed by the country's most sophisticated Medicaid Managed Care Organization, Coordinated Care couples this local approach with national, award-winning best practices to support members and their babies every step of the way.

Coordinated Care's leading maternal health efforts are designed to address social drivers of health during pregnancy, childbirth, and postpartum and improve outcomes for members experiencing higher-risk pregnancies. Its flagship Start Smart for Your Baby® program provides education, supplies, and one-on-one case management at no cost, helping more than 28,000 members since 2015. Coordinated Care also became the first Medicaid health plan in Washington to offer 24/7 virtual doula services as an added benefit – conveniently connecting members to doulas, lactation consultants, and nurses.

Additional programs that offer specialized support for at-risk members include:

  • Immediate access to substance use disorder treatment through Coordinated Care's Healthy Beginnings program
  • Education and coaching to quit smoking through Puff Free Pregnancy
  • OB nurse home visits for monitoring high-risk pregnancies
  • Supply kits for families with newborns who have spent time in the NICU
  • Depression screening and follow-up care for mothers at risk of perinatal depression

By strengthening these partnerships and expanding maternal health programs statewide, Coordinated Care continues its mission to transform the health of the community—one person, one family, and one baby at a time.
